Catacombs. - but I have Colin Curtis' old copy! :-D *It's a bit worn, but in much better nick than some copies that I've seen, considering it's heritage!
@@thesoultwins72Who actually played it at the Torch though? We know that most Allnighters adopted records from all over the country, and the Torch was no exception. I do know that Pep was tipping it c.1972/early '73, but I have no idea when/where it was first played. (Maybe Pep actually took it there, or Colin Curtis?) In any case, I agree that it became a Cats anthem and will always remind me of that hallowed venue! :-D My best to you old friend.
Because it’s the classic style that’s been associated with the NS scene for ever. People who go to Rock-n-Roll would jive/jitterbug....those who go to ballroom dances waltz/tango/foxtrot. Heavy rockers head-bang. Punks pogo...All scenes have a style.
@@VBN997 Classic ,what do you mean. I understand , Ball Room ,even Salsa dancers have plenty of similarities. I am not trying to be difficult, I just want to understand. In my collection of Music I would say there Is mostly Soul Music, I have been Involved with Music for many years. NS Is soul Music right. So the Dancing will come from the Soul. That Is what I find as the difference. Not Choreographed. I understand these days there are Choreographed steps, but back in the day the main people who were choreographing were the bands. If I went to a NS Rave I would dance how I wanted to not how everyone else was dancing. Soul Is express yourself, your feelings. Why is N Soul different. Thank you for Replying.
Love that everybody Is dancing and having a fantastic time. But Its just not possible for all the people to be dancing the same way, not to Soul Music. Sorry People i find that strange. I would have gone to one of these Raves though. Sorry If I have offended anyone.
@@Ceylonia You haven’t got a clue, and until you’ve been to a Northern Soul night you have no room to talk about it. This is a movement/scene that grew at the end of the 1960’s when people in the England started listening and dancing to obscure, thrown-in-the-rubbish-bin records that the people of the US (mainly) weren’t interested in: some true soul, and some blue-eyed soul....some, not soul at all, just records with a great beat to dance to. You can try to dissect it all you like, but you’ll never get it! When you’ve been and experienced the feelings, passion and the sheer atmosphere of the wonderful people of the NS scene, then you can come back and comment....but until then.... I just noticed that “writer james” posted this, “Northern soul is the greatest anti-depressant ever.” I couldn’t have said it better myself. The music and the dancing are what it’s all about, and the two combined can put a person onto cloud 9.... Oh! And please STOP calling our nights “raves”.

@drwhatson........Huge at the Torch [1972] but for me this will ALWAYS be a Catacombs 'anthem'.

One of the best ever
When I watch people dancing to Northern Soul, most of the people seem to dance in the same way. Would love to know why that Is.
